STUDENTS CREATE AUDIE MURPHY MEMORIAL

The Audie Murphy Memorial Exhibit was on display during the 2015 Celeste Blue Devil Homecoming and Reunion.

The Celeste ISD students would like to recognize Sarah Roach Swindell, Class of 1961, for donating her Audie Murphy collection to the Celeste ISD Libraries.  Sarah’s donation sparked an interest in our Celeste ISD students.  Many were excited to learn that Audie Murphy attended Celeste schools as a young boy.  He went on to be one of the most decorated American combat soldiers of World War II, as well as a famous movie star.  Murphy earned and received every decoration for valor that this country had to offer, plus 5 decorations presented to him by France and Belgium.  Audie Murphy truly fits the description of what it means to be a Blue Devil!

In appreciation to Sarah Swindell and in dedication to the preservation, memory, and history of the late Audie Murphy, the Celeste ISD students created the Audie Murphy Memorial library exhibit to be on display during the 2015 Celeste Blue Devil Homecoming and Reunion.

Mrs. Swindell's donation included many photos from Audie Murphy's movies.  A group of high school students became intrigued in Murphy's acting career.  They created movie posters to display in the exhibit. Junior high students in Louis Park's social studies classes created their own versions of Audie Murphy movie posters as well.
