Heroes for Schools

January 2016 is School Board Recognition Month, and Celeste ISD joins other districts across the state as they honor the countless contributions of these locally elected advocates for public education.

Dickens writes poem to honor Celeste ISD School Board

These public servants donate their time and talents to ensure that ALL our children have the best public schools we can provide. These people sit through meetings, read detailed reports, listen to parents’ concerns, and do the hard work to benefit the students and the community at large. And make no mistake about it, the whole community benefits from good schools.

Each January, we pause in our regular activities to say thank you to these dedicated volunteers. We appreciate their generous sharing of time and energy on behalf of our children. Local school board members are truly heroes for our schools. Join us in celebrating School Board Recognition Month in January by expressing your support and gratitude to our school trustees. We are indebted to them.  The 2015-2016 Celeste ISD Board Members are as follows: President: Jeffrey Babers, Vice-President: Mike Curry, Secretary: Carol McCaslin, Member: Brian Thompson, Member: Chris Barnard, Member: Deven Tenney, Member: Trevor Minter

Peyton Dickens is an eighth grader at Celeste Junior High School who loves writing poetry, so she wrote an original poem in honor of the Celeste ISD School Board.  Her poem entitled,

The “Souper” Celeste School Board, was presented to the school board along with a soup gift basket during the January school board meeting.  We would like to share Peyton’s poem:

The “Souper” Celeste School Board

I believe some thanks is due,

to a group of people, namely you.

Though your job I can’t define,

I know it helps this school of mine.

You give us sports, except for a few,

I wouldn’t mind some theater, too.

You think about what we need,

and give it to us, a rare good deed.

A love for knowledge inspires the school,

You give us books, that’s super cool.

Yes, I know this is really long,

But to not say “Thanks” seems so wrong.

Your decisions help us to grow,

losing you would be a tremendous blow.

You do it all without pay,

and wouldn’t have it any other way.

This poem is just to say “Thank You”,

for all the hard work you do.

We wanted to take the time and say,

we think you’re “souper” in every way!
