Mrs. Nicole Hicks was honored at a special reception for the Texas Computer Education Association (TCEA) 2014 Educator Awards on Tuesday, February 4, 2014, at the Austin Hilton Hotel.

Award finalists and their families and friends attended the ceremony where TCEA officers presented plaques honoring their achievements. As one of the finalists for TCEA Classroom Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Hicks received a plaque and $500.  She was recognized for being a teacher who exhibits exemplary use of technology in her 6th-8th grade ELA classes. Mrs. Hicks recognizes and uses a wide variety of technology tools to enhance the learning of all students.

Mrs. Hicks was nominated by the late Celeste ISD Superintendent, Mr. Ricky Beadles.  He remarked that he loved seeing the wonderful projects that her students created using the iPads.  He said that she brought excitement and enthusiasm to her class by integrating technology into the ELA curriculum.  He believed that her greatest accomplishment was that she could inspire the students to want to learn.  He said that through her dedication to make a difference through technology, Mrs. Hicks was changing kids’ lives.

Also nominating Mrs. Hicks was Celeste Junior High Principal, Staci Beadles, and Librarian and Technology Director, Julie Dillard.  According to Mrs. Dillard, Mrs. Hicks sparks her students’ critical thinking skills and is able to master Bloom’s Taxonomy by using a variety of student centered, technology based learning.  Mrs. Beadles stated, “Celeste ISD is very proud of Mrs. Hicks for her dedication and commitment to her students, learning and to the advancement of technology use in the classroom.  She is an outstanding role model for students, teachers and educators.”
