1964 STATE TOURNAMENT TEAM HONORED

Members of Celeste’s 1964 state tournament boys’ basketball team gathered to celebrate their 50th anniversary on January 31, 2014.

Members of Celeste’s 1964 state tournament boys’ basketball team gathered to celebrate their 50th anniversary on January 31, 2014.  The exciting night began with a reception to honor the 1964 team and their families, friends, and fans.  One could easily observe the special bonds and spirit of friendship that these men shared.  There was a definite sense of brotherhood and Blue Devil pride that these men had for one another and their school.  The former players were introduced between the varsity girls’ and boys’ games in the high school gymnasium.  Coached by G.W. Tillerson, the Blue Devils’ roster included Ronnie Clinton, Lloyd Lanier, Joe Tillerson, Mark Hackney, David Pruitt, Jerry Weatherley, W. S. Giles, Bud Roach, Monty Blakemore, Joe Rodriguez, Duane Compton, Oliver Craver, Guille Seigler, Jackie Jackson, Jimmy Steed, Richard Rust, Larry Martin, Harry Childress, Garland Evans, Danny Lipsey, Bill Gibson, Ray Wofford and David Hackney.
