Congratulations to the Celeste High School Class of 2018!  The commencement ceremony will be held on Friday, May 25, 2018 at 8:00 PM in the Celeste High School Gymnasium.  

 


 

Val Class of 2018
Valedictorian Shelby Tenney

Shelby Tenney is the daughter of Jennifer and Deven Tenney. She is the Valedictorian of her class with a 100.346 weighted GPA. She has competed in Cross Country at the Varsity level for 4 years, and qualified for Regionals every year. She was named the Cross Country MVP in the 2015-2016 year, and was Co-MVP in the 2016-2017 year. She has played basketball for 4 years and played at the Varsity level her senior year. She was named Academic All-State in basketball by the TGCA for the 2017-2018 year. She participated in One Act Play her freshman, sophomore, and junior year, and received an Honorable Mention at Bi-District for her performance during her junior year. She competed at the Varsity level for 4 years in Track, and advanced to the Regional level her junior and senior year. She was named a part of the All-State Track team by the TGCA in 2017 for her athletic performance. During the summer of 2017, Shelby ran for the Texas Titans and competed at the 2017 Hershey’s National Junior Olympics in the 3000 meter run and the 2000 meter Steeplechase. She competed in the UIL Spelling competition her junior year, and qualified for the Regional level. She has been an active member of Beta Club for 4 years, engaging in several local beautification projects that can be seen in downtown Celeste. She has been involved in FCA for 4 years, and has been a member at Creekside Church of Christ (formerly Johnson Street Church of Christ) since birth. She was elected to Student Council her freshman, sophomore, and junior year. Shelby will graduate distinguished with honors, and will attend Texas A&M University at College Station to major in Oceanography and minor in Accounting.

Salutatorian Kathryn Gatliff

Kathryn Gatliff is the daughter of James and Lynda Gatliff. She is salutatorian of her class with a GPA of 99.6. She was a 2017 Drill Team officer and an active member for all four years. Kathryn was the Yearbook editor and top student in Advanced Placement Art.  She also participated in One Act play for all four years and in 2017 received a best actress award at the District competition. Kathryn also competed at the Regional level for the UIL Poetry Interpretation Competition for three years in a row. She has also been an active beta club member, serving as the Reporter this school year, and has been a book club member for all four years. Graduating distinguished with honors, she will attend the University of Texas at Austin in the College of Natural Sciences. She plans to major in Neuroscience and work in a research oriented field.
