The second week of the State Fair of Texas was certainly an eventful one for Celeste FFA members. On Monday, October 8th, Celeste FFA had a junior and senior team compete in the SFT Livestock judging competition. This competition is very challenging with both 4-H and FFA members competing. The junior contest consisted of 98 teams and 286 individuals. Paris Walker was the high team individual for the junior team placeing 12th and the junior team placed 29th in the contest. On the senior level, there were 168 teams and 529 individuals. Kloe Walker placed 116th and was the high place individual on the senior team that placed 68th in the contest. Members of the junior team included Madisyn Douglas, Paris Walker and Koby Brown. The senior team included Jaycee Brown, Kloe Walker, Raegan Sumrow and Justin Richey.
Although the weather was rainy and cold on Tuesday, fifty Celeste FFA members attended the SFT Ag Awareness Day. In order to attend the Ag Awareness Day and receive complimentary free admission to the fair, the students had to donate canned goods which will be distributed to the North Texas Food Bank.
Tuesday was also a big day for Raegan Sumrow and her four Brahman heifers. Raegan showed her heifers on Tuesday in the Pan-Am open Brahman female show and the following day in the junior Brahman show. She won calf division champion in the junior show.
On Friday, October 12th, Madisyn Douglas and Raegan Sumrow competed in the SFT Youth Beef Skillathon contest. The purpose of the skillathon is to identify students who exemplify the highest level of diverse involvement, knowledge and skill in the beef project. Madisyn placed 11th in the Intermediate division and Raegan placed 26th on the senior level.
