Robotics Program Gaining Popularity at High School

Celeste High School has been working for the past few years to design a STEM robotics program.  It has been gratifying to observe the excitement and interest from students who are participating in robotics.  Implementation of robotics can increase creativity and innovative thinkers, and it can open opportunities that will benefit our students for future career pathways.

High school science teacher and robotics co-sponsor Dustin Kinnison said the robotics program is a great opportunity to promote STEM awareness at Celeste.  “Our robotics program represents a unique opportunity for our honors students to apply their abilities and critical thinking skills to problem solving through the engineering design process - a challenge not accessible in our regular curriculum. Students are asked to combine the skills of all STEM fields as well as computer science to create a machine that is capable of completing very specific tasks. Our students at Celeste High School did a marvelous job this year, our first full-fledged year of the program, navigating through all of the challenges they faced. I'm very proud, not only of their success at the competition we attended at Region 12 in Abilene (where our Jr./Sr. team reached the semi-finals!), but also how much they have grown and learned by participating in robotics this year,” Kinnison said.
