Excelsior Lodge #505 A.F.& A.M. is a fraternal organization who has as one of its tents the support of education and educational endeavors. To that end, we offer a scholarship each year to a graduating high school senior. Click here to access the scholarship. This year marks H-E-B's 7th year supporting the UIL Scholarship Program for Community Service Excellence. Nominees must have the following submitted to Sports In Action - Scholarship by no later than Jan. 31, 2025:
- Minimum 3.3 GPA
- Number of Community Service Hours completed in the last 12 months
- Community Service Verification Letters to document the number of hours submitted
- A Letter of Recommendation
- A Short Essay (500 words or less) on the topic: “What does Community mean to you?”
There will be 15 total winners – 5 each in music, academics and athletics – and each will be awarded $2,000 from H-E-B. An announcement of the winners will be made at the 2025 UIL Basketball State Champions in March. Please make your students and/or support staff aware of this opportunity.

The Charles Butt Scholarship for Aspiring Teachers is available to prospective teachers who are currently in, or plan to enter, an eligible teacher preparation program at a Raising Texas Teachers partner university. Aspiring Teachers can apply in the fall of any year between their senior year of high school and junior year of college.
To be eligible for the scholarship, students must be committed to teaching in a majority-economically disadvantaged school or in a shortage subject area (in a school where more than 50% of students are eligible for free or reduced lunch, or as a math, science, bilingual, or special education teacher) in a Texas public school. Preference is given to Texas residents. The application opens soon, so check it out here.
Texas State University now offers three Assured Scholarships, which are guaranteed to all qualified students and are renewable for four years. You don’t need to apply—these are awarded automatically to every student whose academic record meets the required qualifications. The three scholarships:
President’s Honor Scholarship – $26,000--$38,000 total over four years
Texas State Achievement Scholarship--$10,000 – $22,000 total over four years
Texas State Distinguished Scholarship – $6,000 – $10,000 total over four years
